Trip overview

The 10-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes you into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, combining traditional mountain villages, forested trails, river valleys, and spectacular Himalayan scenery. Reaching an altitude of 4,130 metres, the journey brings you face to face with some of Nepal's most impressive peaks, including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre.

Your journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a scenic drive to Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village overlooking the Annapurna range. Known for its stone-paved pathways, traditional houses, and mountain views, Ghandruk offers an introduction to the local culture and lifestyle of the Annapurna region.

From Ghandruk, the trekking trail continues towards Chhomrong, passing terraced hillsides, traditional settlements, and forested sections. After Chhomrong, the route descends towards the Modi Khola before climbing through bamboo and rhododendron forests to Bamboo and Deurali. As you gain altitude, the landscape gradually changes from green hillsides and dense forests to narrow mountain valleys and rugged alpine terrain.

Beyond Deurali, the trail leads towards Machhapuchhre Base Camp before entering the Annapurna Sanctuary. Surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks, this natural mountain basin offers some of the most remarkable scenery in the region.

The highlight is reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres. Here, you are surrounded by an extraordinary panorama of Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), and Machhapuchhre (6,993m). The close-up mountain views, particularly during sunrise and sunset, make this one of the most memorable experiences of the trek.

After exploring the base camp, you retrace your route through the Modi Khola valley, passing Deurali and Bamboo before continuing towards Dovan and Jhinu Danda. At Jhinu, you can visit the natural hot springs near the river, offering a relaxing break after several days of trekking in the mountains.

The journey concludes with a short trek to the road-access point, followed by a drive to Pokhara and a flight back to Kathmandu. With a combination of cultural experiences, changing mountain landscapes, and close-up Himalayan views, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers a rewarding introduction to trekking in Nepal within a 10-day itinerary.

Organised by Summit8000, this trek is an excellent choice for travellers looking to experience the Annapurna region, explore the natural beauty of the Himalayas, and reach a spectacular mountain destination without committing to a longer expedition.

At MBC, you can enjoy impressive views of Machhapuchhre, also known as Fishtail Mountain, along with surrounding Himalayan peaks.
