In late July 2026, the global mountaineering community suffered one of its most heartbreaking tragedies when a devastating avalanche struck Broad Peak (8,051m) in Pakistan's Karakoram Range. The accident claimed the lives of several accomplished climbers, including six exceptional Nepali mountaineers whose contributions to Himalayan climbing extended far beyond their summit records.

3. Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta)

4. Nawang Thendu Sherpa

At only 29 years old, Nawang Thendu Sherpa represented the future of Himalayan mountaineering.

Growing up in a family deeply connected to the mountains, he developed exceptional climbing skills from an early age and successfully climbed several 8,000-meter peaks.

Known for his discipline, courage, and quiet determination, he had already earned the admiration of fellow climbers and guides.

His passing is a profound loss not only for his family but for the next generation of Nepali mountaineers.

5. Nima Sherpa

6. Gyalu Sherpa (Gyaljen)
